Sikkim: Incessant rain triggers massive damages to public property in South. Heavy rains on the night of 16th and wee hours of 17th morning caused havoc in South.
Approximately 45 houses have been reported to be partially damaged. 5 others have been reported to be severely damaged and three families were evacuated too. The District Administration was on its toes since last night, as rescue operation to evacuate 7 stranded people at Tirikhola slide was underway till 11 pm respectively. All 7 were rescued. This morning a team lead by Transport Minister, Shri. Sanjit Kharel and accompanied by SDM, (HQ) BDO(Namthang), DPO Disaster Management inspected damaged sites at Tangzi Bikmat, Chuba Phong. The Minister toured to all corners of his constituency where damages took place. Further SDM HQ and DPO also inspected damages in and around Namchi Municipal Council areas. SDM Namchi visited and inspected damaged houses and roads at Jaubari, Damthang area. BDOs of all blocks were directed to take stock of the situation.
It is reported that Sanganath area was badly affected. The water source has been washed off. Similarly water source of Mamring village has also been badly damaged. A similar volunteer team toured Tingrithang area along with supervision of Zilla Adhyaksya (South) & BDO Namchi. All the victims have been handed relief materials like tarpaulins. It is reported that relief shall be provided with immediate effect to the victims. The Minister handed some cash relief to the families. The administration is there to serve with utmost sincerity and dedication.
